Authored by Isaac Watts, this Holy Communion hymn was published in Book III of his Hymns and Spiritual Songs (1707, No. 19) in four stanzas of four lines. It belongs to the section specifically designated "Prepared for the Holy Ordinance of the Lord's Supper" and carries the heading "Glory in the Cross: or, Not ashamed of Christ crucified."
