Hymns about Trinity
The Trinity is the Christian confession that the one true God is Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, equal in glory and undivided in essence. Scripture reveals this mystery in creation, baptism, blessing, and redemption: the Father sends, the Son accomplishes, the Spirit applies. Hymns of the Trinity teach the church to worship the triune God without confusing the persons or dividing the substance.
Though the word Trinity is later than the apostolic age, the reality is woven through the Word. Believers are baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; grace and peace are often invoked from the three. Songs that honor God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit together guard worship from reducing God to a single relation or forgetting any person of the Godhead.
Trinitarian hymns suit openings of worship, creedal moments, Trinity Sunday, and any service that would confess the full gospel of God. They form children in the faith and correct vague theism. In private prayer they enrich address: thanksgiving to the Father, communion with the Son, dependence upon the Spirit.
To sing the Trinity is to enter holy mystery with humble joy. May these hymns keep doxology clear and adoration full, that all glory may be given unto God in three persons, blessed forever.
