Sir John Beaumont

English poet, baronet, and elder brother of dramatist Francis Beaumont who authored Bosworth Field and religious verse.

Sir John Beaumont, elder brother of the celebrated dramatist Francis Beaumont, was born in 1582 and educated at Oxford. He was created a baronet by King Charles I in 1626 and died in 1628.

Beaumont wrote extensive sacred and narrative poetry, including Bosworth Field and Other Poems (1629) and an eight-book manuscript poem titled The Crown of Thorns. His religious verse was republished in Alexander Grosart's Fuller Worthies Library, and several of his poems have been adapted for devotional collections.
