Joseph Beaumont

English poet and scholar educated at Westminster and Peterhouse, Cambridge, known for his epic poem Psyche and religious verse.

Joseph Beaumont, eldest son of Sir John Beaumont, was born on March 3, 1615. Educated at Westminster School and Peterhouse, Cambridge, he died on September 3, 1652.

Beaumont was the author of the massive religious epic Psyche (1647) and numerous Latin and English poems published posthumously in Original Poems in English and Latin (1749). His poem "Homo" was later adapted into the consecration hymn "As earth's pageant passes by."
