Ode VIII of the Easter Canon by St. John of Damascus (Aute he klete kai hagia hemera) was translated into English by John Mason Neale as "Thou hallowed chosen day! that first [morn of praise]" in his Hymns of the Eastern Church (1862, p. 50). The text was incorporated into The People's Hymnal in 1867. A cento comprising stanzas two through four, beginning "Come let us taste the wine's new fruit," appeared as Number 28 in the Irvingite Hymns for the Use of the Churches (1871). A blank verse translation by Richard Frederick Littledale is included in his 1863 Offices (p. 218).
