Based on Matthew 25:41, this seven-stanza hymn titled "The final Sentence, and Misery of the Wicked" was first published by Job Orton in Doddridge's Hymns (1755, No. 189). While rarely printed in full, a select four-stanza arrangement became widely popular in Great Britain and grew to be one of Doddridge's most esteemed hymns in America.
