"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound" is a hymn on divine grace by John Newton, published as Hymn 41 in Book I of the Olney Hymns (1779) in six four-line stanzas, titled "Faith's Review and Expectation." The text is based on 1 Chronicles 17:16–17.
Although virtually unknown in nineteenth-century British hymnals, it achieved extensive and enduring popularity across North American collections.
