"Am Grabe stehn wir stille" is a funeral hymn by Carl Johann Philipp Spitta, published in the first series of his Psalter und Harfe (Leipzig, 1833, p. 140) in six four-line stanzas under the title "At the Grave." Notably, the text served as the basis for Pastor Borchers's funeral oration at Spitta's own burial in October 1859.
Catherine Winkworth translated the hymn as "The precious seed of weeping" for her Chorale Book for England (1863, No. 98). This translation was widely adopted in collections such as Henry Allon's Supplemental Hymns (1868) and the American Methodist Episcopal Hymnal (1878).
