Fill My Cup, Lord
Lyrics
For things that could not satisfy.
And then I heard my Savior speaking—
“Draw from My well that never shall run dry.”
Fill my cup, Lord;
I lift it up Lord;
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.
For pleasures earthly goods afford.
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray—

About This Hymn
“Fill My Cup, Lord” is one of Richard Blanchard’s most widely loved gospel songs. Written in 1959, it draws inspiration from Jesus’ conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well, where He promises living water that will permanently satisfy spiritual thirst. The hymn uses this image to express a heartfelt prayer for the indwelling presence of God, asking Him to fill the empty cup of the soul with His grace and Spirit.
Blanchard composed both the words and the music, reportedly writing the song in a single sitting after a period of personal reflection. Its simple structure and memorable refrain made it especially popular in revival meetings, church services, and personal devotion. The hymn has been included in many hymnals across denominational lines and remains a favorite for its clear gospel message and warm, prayerful tone. It expresses a believer’s longing for divine satisfaction that nothing in this world can give, echoing Christ’s promise that those who come to Him shall never thirst.
