"All ye Gentiles, praise the Lord" is a metrical paraphrase of Psalm 117 by James Montgomery. Composed in three four-line stanzas, it was first published in his 1822 collection Songs of Zion. Montgomery later included it in Original Hymns (1853) under the title "Exhortation to Universal Praise and Thanksgiving."
In several British and American hymnals, the opening line was altered to read "All ye nations, praise the Lord." The text gained steady popularity and saw early adoption in congregational worship.
