Maria Frances Anderson was born in Paris, France, on January 30, 1819, and later married G. W. Anderson, a professor at the University of Lewisburg in Pennsylvania. She contributed two hymns to The Baptist Harp in 1849, of which "Our country's voice is pleading" achieved common hymnal usage.
