At God's right hand in countless numbers

This composite hymn on the anticipation of heaven appears as No. 1247 in the Moravian Hymn Book (1849) and No. 403 in the Irish Church Hymnal (1873). As documented in Major Crawford's Biographical Index, the text is assembled from three distinct sources written over several decades.

The first stanza was written by Ignatius Montgomery as the opening verse of a funeral ode for the Reverend Christian Gottfried Clemens, who died at Bristol on August 14, 1815. The second and third stanzas are English translations executed by Bishop John Gottlob Molther around 1774 from German originals by Christian Gregor ("Wenn schlägt die angenehme Stunde" and "O angenehme Augenblicke," 1766). These translated stanzas were printed as separate verses in the Brethren's Hymn Book of 1789 before being united with Ignatius Montgomery's opening stanza by Bishop Foster in the 1826 edition.
