Written by Frances Ridley Havergal at Leamington on June 30, 1872, this hymn of thanksgiving and praise gives expression to the author's joyful reaction following an instance of personal conversion. The text was composed immediately after her earnest prayers and personal spiritual conversations resulted in a close friend, identified in her private records as A. B., making a personal commitment of faith and enrolling on the side of Christ. Reflecting this spiritual victory with the lines "Another life to live for Thee, another witness won!", the eleven-stanza poem in four-line meter was first published in The Christian on July 11, 1872. It was subsequently included in her major poetry collections, Under the Surface (1874) and Life Mosaic (1879). The hymn reflects Havergal's signature passion for personal evangelism, consecration, and wholehearted Christian service.
