Dated January 3, 1736, in Philip Doddridge's manuscripts, this three-stanza hymn on personal dedication was first published by Job Orton in Doddridge's Hymns (1755) and reprinted in John Doddridge Humphreys's 1839 edition. The original text was preserved in collections such as the Baptist Psalms and Hymns (1858, No. 396).
