Written by Charles Wesley as a reflection on the Last Judgment, this eight-stanza hymn appeared as Number 33 in his Hymns for Children (1763). Unused in Great Britain, a five-stanza selection gained adoption in American collections, including the Methodist Episcopal Hymn Book (1849) and the Hymn Book of the Evangelical Association (Cleveland, Ohio, 1882).
