"Almighty Father, God of grace" is a metrical rendering of the General Confession from the Book of Common Prayer, written by Thomas Cotterill. It was first published in his Selection of Psalms and Hymns (1810) and retained in later editions. The attribution to Cotterill is confirmed by annotated copies of the eighth edition (1819) preserved in the Brooke and Julian libraries.
