"Alleluia, sing to Jesus" is a Eucharistic hymn written by William Chatterton Dix around 1866. It was composed to help address a recognized shortage of Eucharistic hymns within Church of England hymnals at the time.
The text was first published in Dix's Altar Songs (1867, No. 7) in five eight-line stanzas under the title "Redemption by the Precious Blood," designated especially for Ascension-tide. In 1868, it was included without alteration in the Appendix to Hymns Ancient and Modern (No. 350). From there, it was widely adopted throughout Anglican and Protestant hymnals in Great Britain and North America.
