This metrical paraphrase of Psalm 148 was published in the Christian Guardian (1808) under the pseudonym "Theophilus." It was subsequently adopted in a four-stanza version in the Leeds Hymn Book (1853) and in a two-stanza form in Edwin Francis Hatfield's Church Hymn Book (1872).
