"All the night so dark and drear" is a missionary hymn by John Ernest Bode. Based on the gospel entry for the Fifth Sunday after Trinity (St. Luke 5:1), the text was first published in his collection Hymns from the Gospel of the Day (1860).

In 1869, the hymn was added to the Appendix of the S.P.C.K. Psalms and Hymns (No. 416).
