W. E. Arnds serves as a variant spelling and historical cross-reference for Wilhelm Erasmus Arends (1677–1721), a notable German Lutheran pastor and hymn writer. Born in Langenstein as the son of a pastor, he studied theology in Halle under August Hermann Francke before serving ministries in Krottorf and Halberstadt. Arends contributed several deeply spiritual pieces to Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen’s prominent 1714 hymnal, Geistreiches Gesangbuch. His most celebrated work is the four-stanza spiritual warfare hymn "Rüstet euch, ihr Christenleute," which continues to be recognized in Christian music history under his documented pseudonyms and variant spellings.
