Adams, John Greenleaf

John Greenleaf Adams was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1810 and served as a prominent Universalist clergyman and editor. In 1846, he partnered with Edwin Hubbell Chapin to compile Hymns for Christian Devotion, a widely influential collection within Universalist congregations. He later edited The Gospel Psalmist independently in 1861. Both collections featured his original poetry, with each volume containing sixteen of his own hymns.
