Another week has passed away

Composed by the Anglican clergyman William Hiley Bathurst, this hymn was first published in his Psalms and Hymns for Public and Private Use (1831, Number 129) under the header "Saturday Evening." Consisting of five stanzas of four lines, the text prepares the worshiper's heart for the upcoming Lord's Day by contemplating the conclusion of another weekly cycle. It was subsequently included in Edward Bickersteth's Christian Psalmody (1833) and Benjamin Hall Kennedy's Hymnologia Christiana (1863), where minor textual alterations were introduced. In 1871, the Reverend Richard Bingham translated Bathurst's original English text into Latin elegiacs under the title "Nobis nunc iterum praeterit hebdomas," publishing it in his Hymnologia Christiana Latina as a classical devotional piece.
