Oswald J. Smith (1889–1986)

Oswald Jeffrey Smith was a Canadian Presbyterian pastor, evangelist, missionary statesman, and one of the most prolific gospel hymn writers of the 20th century. He is remembered both for his global missionary vision and for his extensive contribution to evangelical hymnody, with over a thousand hymn texts and poems attributed to him.

He was born on November 8, 1889, in Odessa and lived during a period of major evangelical expansion and global missionary movement.

Ministry and pastoral work
