I Will Not Forget

I Will Not Forget (Romanian: N-am Sa Uit) is a Christian hymn written by the Romanian poet and Christian writer Traian Dorz. Dorz was a leading figure in the evangelical renewal movement known as the Army of the Lord (Oastea Domnului) within the Romanian Orthodox context. Much of his writing was produced during times of persecution under the communist government in Romania.

The hymn expresses a believer's determination to remember God's grace, mercy, and faithfulness. Its message reflects the biblical instruction in Deuteronomy 6:12 and Psalm 103:2, which warn believers not to forget the works and blessings of the Lord. The hymn emphasizes gratitude for God's saving work and encourages believers to remain faithful even during trials.

Traian Dorz endured many hardships because of his Christian faith, including imprisonment and restrictions on his ministry. Despite these difficulties, he continued writing poems, hymns, and devotional works that strengthened believers and encouraged perseverance in faith.

The hymn also reflects the spirit of Lamentations 3:21-23, where the writer finds hope by remembering the Lord's steadfast love and mercy. Dorz's words remind worshipers that recalling God's faithfulness brings strength and hope even in times of suffering.

An English adaptation titled "I Will Not Forget" was later prepared by Keith Getty, Kristyn Getty, and Fionan de Barra. Their translation introduced the hymn to English speaking congregations while preserving its message of remembrance, faith, and gratitude to God.

Today the hymn stands as both a testimony of faith under persecution and a song that calls believers to remember the unchanging grace of Christ, who remains the same yesterday, today, and forever as stated in Hebrews 13:8.
