All Hail To Thee, Immanuel
By D. R. Van Sickle
Lyrics
We cast our crowns before Thee;
Let ev'ry heart obey Thy will,
And ev'ry voice adore Thee.
In praise to Thee, our Savior King,
The vibrant chords of Heaven ring,
And echo back the mighty strain:
All hail! All hail!
All hail! All hail! Immanuel!
Hail to the King we love so well!
Hail! Immanuel!
Hail to the King we love so well!
Hail! Immanuel!
Glory and honor and majesty,
Wisdom and power be unto Thee,
Now and evermore!
Hail to the King we love so well!
Hail! Immanuel!
Hail to the King we love so well!
Hail! Immanuel!
King of kings and Lord of lords,
All hail, Immanuel!
The ransomed hosts surround Thee;
And earthly monarchs clamor forth
Their Sov'reign King to crown Thee.
While those redeemed in ages gone,
Assembled 'round the great white throne,
Break forth into immortal song:
All hail! All hail!
All hail! All hail! Immanuel!
Our risen King and Savior!
Thy foes are vanquished, and Thou art
Omnipotent forever.
Death, sin and hell no longer reign,
And Satan’s pow’r is burst in twain;
Eternal glory to Thy name:
All hail! All hail!
All hail! All hail! Immanuel!

About This Hymn
"All Hail to Thee, Immanuel!" is a triumphant and uplifting hymn written in 1910 by D. R. Van Sickle. Notably, Van Sickle composed the text while he was an unbeliever he wanted to demonstrate that even those who didn’t share the faith could still craft a powerful, faithful hymn.
The lyrics extol Jesus Christ, Immanuel, the Savior, as the victorious, reigning King. Vivid imagery abounds: crowns cast before Him, heaven’s rejoicing, and the final overthrow of sin, death, and Satan. The refrain exults: “Hail to the King we love so well! Hail! Immanuel! … King of kings and Lord of lords, All hail, Immanuel!”.
Musically, the hymn was set to a stirring tune by Charles H. Gabriel, which added dynamic choral momentum and helped the hymn become popular in many gospel and church settings.
Interestingly, the hymn had a personal, transformative impact on its author. Years after writing it, Van Sickle heard his own hymn sung by a church choir and was profoundly convicted leading to his conversion to faith.
