Green was ordained in the British Methodist ministry and served as pastor and district superintendent in Brighton and York, later ministering in Norwich. He composed hymns that bridged the gap between early twentieth-century hymnody and contemporary styles emerging in the mid-to-late twentieth century.
Fred Pratt Green died in 2000. His hymns are noted for their accessibility and continued use in Methodist and wider Protestant worship.
