About This Hymn
"When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder" is a triumphant gospel hymn written and composed by James M. Black in 1893. The inspiration reportedly came when Black, a Methodist Sunday school teacher, noticed a student’s absence during class roll call and thought about the heavenly “roll call” at Christ’s return.
