Come and Dine
By C. B. Widmeyer
Lyrics
Where the saints of God are fed,
He invites His chosen people, Come and dine;
With His manna He doth feed
And supplies our every need:
O ’tis sweet to sup with Jesus all the time!
Come and dine, the Master calleth, Come and dine;
You may feast at Jesus’ table all the time;
He who fed the multitude, turned the water into wine,
To the hungry calleth now, Come and dine.
Thus obeying Christ’s command,
For the Master called unto them, Come and dine;
There they found their heart’s desire,
Bread and fish upon the fire;
Thus He satisfies the hungry every time.
To be ever at His side,
All the host of Heaven will assembled be;
O ’twill be a glorious sight,
All the saints in spotless white;
And with Jesus they will feast eternally.

About This Hymn
"Come and Dine" is a joyful gospel hymn written by Charles B. Widmeyer in the early 20th century. This hymn draws directly from the post-resurrection account in John 21:12 (KJV), where Jesus invites His disciples with the simple yet profound words: “Come and dine.”
The song was inspired by this scene on the shore of the Sea of Tiberias, where the risen Christ serves breakfast to His weary, discouraged disciples. The invitation “come and dine” is symbolic not only of physical nourishment but of the deeper spiritual fellowship and sustenance that Christ offers to all who follow Him.
Widmeyer beautifully captures this idea in the lyrics, portraying Jesus as the host who feeds the multitudes, turns water into wine, and still calls to the hungry soul today. The refrain rings with assurance:
“Come and dine,” the Master calleth, “Come and dine”;
You may feast at Jesus’ table all the time...
This hymn has been beloved in evangelistic meetings and church services for its upbeat melody and its comforting message of Christ’s provision and presence.
