William Clark Martin was born in 1864 in Hightstown, New Jersey, United States. He completed his early education at the Peddie Institute in Hightstown, graduating in 1884, and pursued theological studies at Crozer Theological Seminary in Upland, Pennsylvania, from which he graduated in 1891.
After completing his theological education, Martin served as a Baptist minister in multiple congregations across the United States. His pastoral appointments included Grace Baptist Church, Camden, New Jersey (1891–1894); Noank Baptist Church, Noank, Connecticut (1894–1900); Tabernacle Baptist Church, New Albany, Indiana (1902–1904); First Baptist Church, Seymour, Indiana (1902–1904); First Baptist Church, Bluffton, Indiana (1904–1909); Grace Baptist Church, Somerville, Massachusetts (1909–1912); and First Baptist Church, Fort Myers, Florida (1912–1914).
In 1891, he married Euretta (Etta) May Wilcox; records indicate they had at least three children.
Martin was active as a hymn lyricist, contributing multiple hymn texts to Baptist and evangelical hymnody during his ministry, though comprehensive lists of his texts are limited in hymnological databases.
He died of heart failure at his farm in Rialto, Florida, in 1914.
