Brian Petak

Brian Petak is a contemporary American pastor and hymn writer known for his contributions to modern evangelical hymnody, particularly through texts that emphasize the centrality of the cross and the gospel of Christ. His work reflects a commitment to blending doctrinal depth with accessible and singable language for congregational worship.

Petak is best recognized for his hymn “In the Cross Alone I Glory,” written in 2005. This hymn has gained wide acceptance in modern hymn collections, including Sing! Hymnal, and has been recorded by well-known Christian artists such as Bethany Dillon and Matt Hammitt. The hymn centers on the redemptive work of Christ, echoing the biblical truth of Galatians 6:14, where the apostle Paul declares that his only boast is in the cross of Jesus Christ.

In addition to this well-known hymn, Petak has contributed other musical works such as “Unredeemed,” performed by The Martins, and “He Will Deliver Us,” a choral composition frequently used by church choirs. Beyond songwriting, Brian Petak serves as the Lead Pastor of The Ascent Church in Monument, Colorado.
