Amelia Matilda Hull was born at Marpool Hall, Exmouth, circa 1825, daughter of William Thomas Hull. She was an author and composer of religious hymns, many of which were intended for children. Hull also contributed 22 hymns to H. W. Soltau’s Pleasant Hymns for Boys and Girls, circa 1860. Additional hymns from her works appeared in The Enlarged London Hymn Book, 1873, where they were signed "A. M. Hull". Her compositions were primarily devotional and intended to instruct and inspire young believers.
